Stuttering Can Be Overcome

Like, no doubt, the majority of people who have a stutter, I used to fear various words that began with a particular letter. Words which began with “b” were especially hard to say. If somebody asked me where I lived, I would have a voice in my head, which is what I call my demons, which would tell me that I could not say the word “Birmingham”. It would also advise to say “West Midlands” instead. This word substitution is something that I regularly did. I was not happy though and was desperate to stop this voice and believed if I could stop it, then I would be able to overcome this stuttering disability once and for all.

I would see a potential job in the newspaper, the demons would tell me not to apply for it as the interview would be too difficult for me with the pressure of having to answer all of the questions which would be asked. I was forever listening to the voices in my head and would therefore not even try for this vacancies instead choosing to continue to work in my original boring job for fully 6 years.

Empty Nest SyndromeThere comes a time in the life of every parent or guardian when the child or children, they have spent a good deal of their lives raising, move out into the world on their own. While this is suppose to be a time of celebration for having successfully launched a child into adulthood, for many it is also a time when empty nest syndrome strikes.

Not unlike retirement from the working world, the job of active parenting has a finite time frame. Planning ahead for changes in your life that occur once a child leaves home will help with the transition and help you to make it a time to be looked forward to. Here are five things that you can begin to do before the child has left home to help you to reduce or avoid...

Personal GrowthI am sure you are asking just what barn raisings and flood-subs have in common with personal growth. A few of you may not even be aware of what they are.

Barn raisings refers to a time many years ago when friends and family would gather to help another build a barn or dwelling. In those days there were no cranes or lifts and the hands of many were needed to accomplish the task. This was also considered to be a social occasion for many as distance and the need to work on their own land often meant not being able to socialize for extended periods of time.

I smile when I think of Flood-Subs. In 1997 there was a major flood in our area. The effect was so extensive that you needed a boat to reach many of the areas. A friend of mine and I volunteered one day to assist...
