<p style="text-align: left;">Man or woman, the mirror can be our enemy as time takes its toll on our faces. Thinner skin, wrinkles, bags under our eyes, laugh and frown lines all add to the character of our faces. While looking in the mirror one day, Carolyn decided that her face had a bit more character than she cared for.</p>

<p style="text-align: left;">Like many of us, Carolyn began searching through the various programs and gadgets available to see if she could reverse some of the character showing in her face. She wanted a method that would improve her face without surgery, Botox or other invasive methods.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">Carolyns research took her through numerous phases, including one of gadgets which simulated isometric exercise by electrically stimulating the facial muscles. Carloyn continued her research trying every program available only to find that they all fell short of her goal in one way or another. Either they were impossible to keep up in a busy life or they tended to add bulk to individual areas of the face and not address others. She was looking for a total package that was doable in light of peoples busy lives as well as one that addressed the entire face in a balanced manner.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">Finally it dawned on Carolyn that there just wasnt such a program available and she made the decision to create her own facial exercise program. Building on results achieved in her experiments on her own face, Carolyn refined her facial exercises to include all of the common problem areas such as facial wrinkles, neck lines, double chin and that aging skin look. No we arent talking about the bend and snap of Legally Blonde fame. That is a whole other story.</p>
<p>In our busy lives it is often a struggle to find the time to exercise and when we do, it is often with a well lets just get it over with attitude, because there are so many other demands on our time. This is where many forget to properly warm up their muscles before exercise by doing a brief bend and stretch routine.</p>
<p>Taking five minutes before a workout to bend and stretch sends a WAKE UP call to those muscles and prepares them for the task ahead. Failure to do your warm up stretches can lead to excessive soreness and even injury as the muscle lacks the flexibility it would if properly stretched first.</p>
<p>Equally important is to take a few minutes to bend and stretch following exercise. Muscles tighten up when demands are placed on them or if they are in a particular position for an extended period of time. Adding cool down stretches to the end of a workout extends the muscles and helps them to relax properly following exercise. Failure to do so often leads to cramping in the muscle. Probably more than one of you reading this here today has experienced a so-called Charley Horse at some point. Cramped muscles can be very painful and dont do a whole lot for your resolve to continue working out.</p>
<p>There are many other areas where taking a few minutes to do warm up stretches will help you feel good. Whenever you are working for an extended period of time without a lot of movement, or begin to feel a tightening of the muscles from being in one position too long, take a few minutes to bend and stretch. Those who work at a desk for the majority of the day will be able to relate to this.</p>
<p>Even when you are enjoying activities, sports or hobbies such as gardening, you will find that a simple bend and stretch of your muscles prior, during and after your activity will help it to remain enjoyable for you.</p>

<p>Exercise !!!  Aaaaaaaaaaaarggggg, one of those necessary evils in life.  Exercise, particularly aerobics was created to torment those of us that are challenged in the area of coordination. There is absolutely nothing that interests me about the prospect of paying to join a group of sweating individuals to jump around for an hour or so.   Life is busy enough without adding another boring activity to it. This I can do in the privacy of my home when time permits. I confess, I am a Richard Simmons  Sweating to the Oldies fan.  But his fun workouts are about to be challenged by Zumba. Ive placed my order for the <a href="http://astore.amazon.com/imy-20/detail/B00194712G" target="_blank">Zumba DVD Workout</a>.</p>
<p>So what is Zumba.  Zumba is a form of dance fitness centered around a Latin/International dance themes and music.  The routines use an invigorating mixture of Latin rhythms from a variety of dance styles including salsa, hip hop, mambo, cumbia, merengue and reggae.</p>
<p><span id="more-259"></span>I confess to being a human of the two left feet variety.  Fortunately Zumba workout routines do not require dance experience and look as though they contain enough repetition to allow one to pick up the steps easily with intervals of fast and slow rhythms to hold my interest.</p>
<p><a rel="attachment wp-att-283" href="http://www.imperfectyou.com/259/do-you-zumba/zumba2"><img class="size-thumbnail wp-image-283 alignleft" style="border: 0pt none; margin: 5px;" title="Zumba" src="http://www.imperfectyou.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/zumba2-106x150.jpg" alt="Zumba" width="106" height="150" /></a>Imagine dancing for fun and getting a great aerobic workout at the same time. Shakiras Hips Dont Lie seems to be one of the favorite music selections for Zumba.  Hmmm, well Im sure my hips wont lie either once my copy the workout DVDs arrive and I begin.  Im sure theyll be expressing their opinion loud and clear for the first while at least.  I just hope they wont protest too much.</p>
<p>From what I have seen of these workouts, I&#8217;ll probably be introduced to some new muscles. It should provide a good workout with a fair amount of cardiovascular conditioning. Bonus, no specialty workout gear or clothing required.  One of the gentlemen in the Zumba video below is wearing construction boots.</p>
<p>Above all, Zumba appears to be fun and who knows, maybe Ill finally develop some coordination.  Will it replace <a href="http://astore.amazon.com/imy-20/detail/B000Z0UEV0" target="_blank">Sweating to the Oldies</a>?  More to come once my order arrives.</p>
