Use Facial Exercise To Turn Back TimeAt the age of 52, Carolyn began her quest to find a method to eliminate facial aging and in the process Carolyn’s Facial Fitness with its comprehensive facial exercise program was born.

Man or woman, the mirror can be our enemy as time takes its toll on our faces.  Thinner skin, wrinkles, bags under our eyes, laugh and frown lines all add to the character of our faces.  While looking in the mirror one day, Carolyn decided that her face had a bit more character than she cared for.

Like many of us, Carolyn began searching through the various programs and gadgets available to see if she could reverse some of the character showing in her face.  She wanted a method that would improve her face without surgery, Botox or other invasive methods.

Carolyn’s research took her through numerous phases, including one of  gadgets which simulated isometric exercise by electrically stimulating the facial muscles.  Talk about getting a charge out of your research.  While some improvement was shown, Carolyn found that not only was it inconvenient to press electrodes against her face for an hour a day, but it really didn’t produce the results she was looking for.

Exercise: Bend and Stretch

Exercise - Bend and StretchWhenever you begin or end an exercise routine, it is important to bend and stretch.  No we aren’t talking about the bend and snap of Legally Blonde fame.  That is a whole other story.

In our busy lives it is often a struggle to find the time to exercise and when we do, it is often with a ‘well let’s just get it over with’ attitude, because there are so many other demands on our time.  This is where many forget to properly warm up their muscles before exercise by doing a brief bend and stretch routine.

Taking five minutes before a workout to bend and stretch sends a WAKE UP call to those muscles and prepares them for the task ahead.  Failure to do your warm up stretches can lead to excessive soreness and even injury as the muscle lacks the flexibility it would if properly stretched first.

Equally important is to take a few minutes to bend and stretch following exercise.  Muscles tighten up when demands are placed on them or if they are in a particular position for an extended period of time.  Adding cool down stretches to the end of a workout extends the muscles and helps them to relax properly following exercise.  Failure to do so often leads to cramping in the muscle.  Probably more than one of you reading this here today has experienced a so-called Charley Horse at some point.  Cramped muscles can be very painful and don’t do a whole lot for your resolve to continue working out. Do You Zumba?

ZumbaWhat is Zumba? Is it exercise, a dance, an evil plot against the vertically challenged, or all of the above?

Exercise !!! Aaaaaaaaaaaarggggg, one of those necessary evils in life. Exercise, particularly aerobics was created to torment those of us that are challenged in the area of coordination.  There is absolutely nothing that interests me about the prospect of paying to join a group of sweating individuals to jump around for an hour or so.   Life is busy enough without adding another boring activity to it.  This I can do in the privacy of my home when time permits.  I confess, I am a Richard Simmons – Sweating to the Oldies fan. But his fun workouts are about to be challenged by Zumba.  I’ve placed my order for the Zumba DVD Workout.

So what is Zumba.  Zumba is a form of dance fitness centered around a Latin/International dance themes and music. The routines use an invigorating mixture of Latin rhythms from a variety of dance styles including salsa, hip hop, mambo, cumbia, merengue and reggae.
